The National Association of the blind FCT chapter, has called on the Federal government to make available accessories and materials that can assist visually impaired persons in their daily activities.
The Chairman, of the Association, Mr. Agada Jacob, made the call at a forum for persons with impaired vision.
According to Mr. Jacob, most visually impaired persons find it difficult to move around without accessories such as the white cane, a device used for scanning surroundings for obstacles by blind persons.
An Assistant Director in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mr. Garba Magaji, said a national road map for the production of accessibility appliances would soon be launched to aid blind persons in their day-to-day activities.
A representative from the National Commission for persons with Disability, Mr. Lawrence Idemudia, called on the Federal Government to provide an enabling environment for the visually impaired to thrive.
